A Letter from the Founder: Glass Ladder Group's "Why"

Founder Letter | Sabrina K. Garba | Jan. 14, 2017

Lately, I have been pretty obsessed with the concept of "Why". Though this isn't a new concept to me, I have found myself asking the question, more often than ever before. I am also known for asking questions like, "to what end," or, "who cares." Although those questions are very powerful tools for motivating others and driving success there is something about "why" that gets to the core of not just the thing being done, but also the person who is doing it.

In this case, the Glass Ladder Group's "why" is completely tied to my personal experiences. Everything from being one of few African-Americans in a classroom or work environment to attending an HBCU to trying to navigate a pretty segregated city has fueled my desire to shape a different world for the next generation. Creating a better experience for the next generation of leaders is no easy feat, and it can not be done alone. So instead of keeping our "why" all to myself, I am going to share it with you all in hopes that you will support us on our journey for a more understanding and equitable society.

Glass Ladder Group's "Why":

We do this work to help develop mutual understanding across cultures, whether they be ethnic or social-economic. It is our belief that this will lead to a more level playing field and opportunities for all people. By doing this we know that we can decrease discrimination. Developing mutual understanding and decreasing discrimination are keys to increasing success for marginalized populations. With a level playing field and increased opportunities available to all people, we will be able to create greater global productivity leading to a better future for the coming generations and an elevated level of knowledge for the common man.

Everything about our "why" is connected to the future. We are focused on how we can change the world a year at a time and we hope that you are too.

Thanks for reading! Do you have a "why?" If so, share it below in the comments. We would love to hear from you.
